Richard Suib studied fine art and industrial design at the Art Institute of Chicago where he earned a BFA in 1958. During his career as a designer and projects director, Suib was engaged in the creative development and production of worldwide cultural exchange exhibitions, interpretive museum exhibits, and international expositions. From 1977 to 1987, Suib headed the Exhibits Development Division of the U.S. Information Agency, and during this period he won a number of awards for design and art direction including the Presidential Design Excellence Award presented by the National Endowment for the Arts. In 1988 he struck out on his own to establish Richard Suib Design International, specializing in exhibition planning & design, and fine arts management.
In the early 1990's Suib began exploring a then-emerging new medium, Digital Imaging. Computers have since evolved into a powerful force for creative experimentation that revolutionized the way artists may conceptualize and realize images. Unleashing the imagination, images may be transformed many times over with results obtained in real time, and artists no longer need be content with ideas once executed, are "carved in stone".
Photography forms the basis of Suib's work but is not an end in itself. Concepts for his works are digitally reconstructed with the mind's eye of a painter and at the end of the creative process, images are rendered with the craftsmanship of a printmaker. Printed one-at-a-time in limited editions by the artist, images are realized on a large format giclee printer using archival quality materials including pigment based inks on acid free fine art papers.
